Author Note
As a 2019 War Horse Combat Medic and Corpsman Writing Fellow, I’ve had the opportunity to share my experiences from the frontlines of both military service and emergency medicine. My third piece for The War Horse Journal, published on September 15, 2021, continues the story I began in my March 25, 2020, article, “The Circus Is Coming to Town” (https://thewarhorse.org/the-circus-is-coming-to-town/).
In that follow-up, I speak candidly about the fears I faced, the demons that surfaced, and the lasting effects of long-haul COVID.
These stories are not just mine—they echo the experiences of countless healthcare workers and first responders who carried the weight of that time.
